Portobello Baptist Church’s trustees bring a rich mix of leadership skills to support the staff team. Their role is non-executive. As trustees, they have a legal duty to act collectively to deliver the church’s strategic objectives as a charity and to provide public benefit, reporting annually to OSCR. Their duties include strategic oversight, legal and regulatory compliance, ensuring proper financial controls and managing risk.

OSCR’s Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) requires that charities report how new trustees are recruited and trained. At PBC, trustees are appointed from within the membership of the church. This is done through an initial meeting followed by a more structured conversation with trustees, then approval by the wider church family. Induction focuses on OSCR’s guidance, the sharing of key documents, and time spent with other trustees at an annual Away Day.
Trustees’ meetings occur every month.
